SEOUL, May 15 (Korea Bizwire)Asiana Airlines marked 1,415 billion won of sales during the first quarter of this year but recorded a loss in operating profit (- 2.1 billion won) and net profit (- 46.6 billion won).

Although the airliner recorded a deficit in operating profit during the first quarter, it narrowed the deficit by 19 billion won from the same period of the previous year and the loss in the net profit decreased by 1.6 billion won over the same period.

In passenger sector, Asiana Airlines saw an increase in passengers in China and Southeast Asian flight routes, thanks to the Korean Wave. Meanwhile, there were more outbound travels by domestic passengers to these destinations due to a strong won. However, in the routes to and from Japan, it recorded poor results.

In flight cargo sector, it saw an increased demand thanks to more freight of UHD TVs, auto parts and mobile phones. Asiana plans to increase its competitiveness by introducing new airplanes like the Airbus A380 and A330 and reinforce long-distance routes to Istanbul, Paris and Seattle and Southeast Asia routes like Kalibo (the Philippines) and Hanoi.

In cargo sector, it will raise the profitability by focusing on profitable routes, strengthening load efficiency and winning more e-commerce cargos.
