SEOUL, Feb. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — The Social and Labor Affairs Committee of the Jogye Order, South Korea’s largest Buddhist sect, on Tuesday held a prayer ceremony near the Myanmar Embassy in Seoul wishing for democracy in the Southeast Asian country.
Ven. Hyemun prayed for the souls of those sacrificed by the Myanmar military junta, calling on junta chief Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing to “step down immediately.”
“The military seeks to root out democracy in Myanmar. That, however, will not succeed,” he said.
“No nation can suppress the universal rights of the people for the sake of power,” the committee said in a letter sent to the embassy.
“The military junta should be disassembled immediately and leave Myanmar.”
