BUSAN, Apr. 12 (Korea Bizwire)The Busan municipal government said Thursday it will build a fashion business center in the city’s central region to help foster the textile and fashion industry in South Korea’s second-biggest city.

The six-story Busan Fashion Business Center will be built on 1,613 square meters of land in Beomil-dong with financial support of 3 billion won (US$2.8 million) from the South Korean government, a Busan city official said.

The center will serve as a “one-stop control tower” for the textile industry in the port city by providing assistance in the design, manufacture and marketing of clothing and other fashion items, the official said. Busan is the birthplace of the country’s textile industry, which played a key role in the country’s rapid growth in the past.

Joseon Textile Company and several other textile companies were built in Busan in 1917 during Japanese colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula and formed the basis for future growth.

Reflecting this heritage, several traditional markets in Beomil-dong currently accommodate thousands of clothing shops and sewing companies.

The city government will also expand Busan Fashion Creative Studio (BFCS), which was launched in 2015 to help fashion designers by providing “creative space and consulting support, mentoring and promotion and marketing programs.”

The studio currently supports 20 designer teams.

“We are determined to help the region emerge as the center of the city’s textile and fashion industry by making it the place specializing in 21st century sewing and fashion, total fashion and jewelry fashion,” another official said.
