DONGHAE, July 24 (Korea Bizwire) — The unique festival held in the east coast city of Donghae, inspired by dokkaebi (goblins appearing in Korean folklore) ended in resounding success.
The Dojjaebi Festa, organized for the second time this year, drew 60,000 visitors over three days, making it a grand achievement, according to the Donghae Culture & Tourism Foundation’s announcement on Sunday.
‘Dojjaebi’ is a dialectical expression for the word ‘dokkaebi’.
The festival featured a diverse array of programs and booths that captivated visitors.
Among the attractions were the Dojjaebi Tattoo Experience, Dojjaebi dress-up, Dojjaebi photo studio, and the Dojjaebi ‘Nanjang’ Drum Performance.
These booths were situated along the city’s waterfront park and the Haerang Observatory, leading to Donghae’s tourist destinations such as Dojjaebigol Sky Valley, Nongoldam-gil Street, Adal Beach, and Mangsang Beach.
The festival was a collaborative effort between the city of Donghae and the Donghae Culture & Tourism Foundation.
The opening ceremony took place on Friday at Mukhohang Port’s Cruise Terminal Square.
Designated as one of the 100 K-Culture Tourist Events by the culture ministry and the Korea Tourism Organization, the festival’s visitor count saw an increase of over 40,000 people compared to the previous year, thanks to the diverse programs that emphasized public participation.
