SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s educational TV channel EBS aims to enhance awareness of people with disabilities by introducing a new character with autism spectrum disorder in an educational puppet show.

The broadcaster announced on Wednesday that Byeori, a character with autism spectrum disorder, will make her debut on the Friday episode of “Ding Dong Dang Kindergarten.”

During this episode, kindergarten children will have their first encounter with Byeori.

The teacher will offer a simple explanation to introduce Byeori to the young viewers.

The production team extensively studied the behaviors of children with autism spectrum disorder.

Both the puppeteer and the voice actor portraying Byeori undertook a thorough examination of the various characteristics of autism spectrum disorder to ensure the avoidance of perpetuating stereotypes.

“This episode aims to present a challenge for young children, helping them learn about engaging with others and embracing values such as boundaries, respect and diversity,” EBS said.
