SEJONG, Jul. 25 (Korea Bizwire)Students in designated elementary schools will learn mathematics using artificial intelligence (AI) based content starting next year.

The Ministry of Education, jointly with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity, has begun developing AI-based content for mathematics for elementary schools.

Instead of solving questions, the content will be based on various exercises and games to help students acquire number sense.

Number sense refers to an intuitive understanding of numbers, their magnitude, and relationships.

The ministry is seeking to combine ‘playable content’ with an AI-based Learning Management System (LMS) to collect information on the mathematical concepts that students struggle with the most, while the students play with numbers and arithmetic operations through computer games and other forms of play.

Using the collected information, the AI system creates and offers content specially tailored to the needs of the students.

The ministry will first begin with developing the playable content, which will be tested on first and second grade elementary students next year.

Data on correct and incorrect answers given by the students while using the content will be collected for future LMS studies.

This new AI initiative comes as a part of the ‘Smart Learning Analysis Platform’ project led by the ministry and the Korea Education and Research Information Service.

Once the platform is complete, students will be able to use AI content in other subjects including the Korean language, English, and more.
