TOKYO, JAPAN,  Mar. 1 (Korea Bizwire) – Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced that its Ethernet fabric-based New IP network switching solution has been deployed by Excite Japan Co Ltd (TSE: 3754) as a key part of the company’s service infrastructure. The Internet portal operator has completely re-engineered its data centers with the OpenStack software platform for cloud computing, along with Brocade® VDX® 6740 switches, to create a next-generation service infrastructure that improves business agility and scalability for future requirements.

Established in 1997 as an Internet portal operator, Excite Japan has evolved its business model to focus on services targeted at women, with an increasing emphasis on mobile apps. The move to a fully integrated, software-driven data center infrastructure enables the company to eliminate previous operational bottlenecks and respond more dynamically to fluctuating demand and new requirements, thereby streamlining the deployment of new services and improving operational economics.

“At Excite we have a culture of taking on challenges, so implementing new data center technologies such as OpenStack and Ethernet fabrics to establish an infrastructure that greatly simplifies service hosting was something we welcomed,” said Takashi Fukuda from Excite Japan’s Infrastructure Department. “As Brocade has been an active contributor to the OpenStack community, we felt secure about receiving strong support for building an OpenStack-based network. We expect Brocade will continue to bring us solutions that add value to our OpenStack deployment.”

The Brocade VDX 6740 switches support Brocade VCS® Fabric technology, enabling multiple switches to form a self-configuring, self-healing Ethernet fabric that removes the need for additional network switching layers in the data center. The fabric is managed as a single device and, when Excite Japan needs more data center ports, it can simply add more switches to the VCS fabric.

The Brocade Neutron plug-in provides the programmatic interface between the VCS fabric and OpenStack, enabling Excite Japan to configure virtual networks on the Brocade VDX switches in tandem with provisioning virtual machines. The switches’ 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports run at wire-speed, with very low port-to-port latency across the fabric, which is ideal for cloud data center operations where multiple virtual machines reside on each host server.

“Excite Japan has now moved to the stage of cloud operational maturity with a highly automated data center infrastructure that can be manage holistically,” said Masakazu Aoba, VP of Japan, Brocade. “The integration of Brocade VCS Fabric technology with OpenStack yields unprecedented level of operational efficiency and administrative simplicity, yielding a highly flexible infrastructure that enables Excite Japan to accelerate new service development and deployment.”

A member of the OpenStack alliance since 2011, Brocade has embraced the platform to promote multivendor and system-to-system interoperability for cloud networking environments, drawing on its data center networking expertise to contribute architectural enhancements to the core OpenStack framework. Brocade supports OpenStack users by delivering network visibility, extensibility, and adaptability, and by partnering with leading OpenStack distributors such as Red Hat and Mirantis to offer a consumable, supported path to orchestrating the on-demand data center.
