BUSAN, Sept. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – A new photo exhibition showcasing pictures of a Korean War hospital operated by Swedish medical volunteers has opened in Busan at Dong-A University.
The opening ceremony of the photo exhibition dedicated to brave war veterans and medical staff at the Swedish Red Cross’s field hospital in Busan took place on Wednesday in the presence of a number of those who worked at the hospital during the Korean war, as well as patients.
Organized by the Busan Metropolitan Government and the Busan Tourism Organization, the event showcases over 180 photos looking back at the contributions from Swedish volunteers, the hospital, Busan, and nature scenes from Sweden.
One former patient, Jo, who is now 76 years old, says she visited Sweden in memory of her Swedish doctor, who saved her life when she suffered from tuberculosis and provided her with medicine for nearly a year.
“I believe my life after 16 is a gift bestowed by the Swedish people,” Jo said.

One former volunteer nurse, who is in her early 90s, also took part in the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition.
The nurse said, “When I heard the news about the outbreak of the Korean War in England, I decided to come to Korea.
“Looking at the progress made in Korea and Busan, it makes me proud of my decision to help Korean people.”
