SEOUL, June 11 (Korea Bizwire) – Who is the hottest South Korean pop star on Instagram, an online mobile photo-sharing and video-sharing service? The answer is popular idol group EXO‘s Chanyeol, according to data released by Instagram Thursday.
The data showed that Chanyeol received 97 million replies and “likes” during a year from May 25, last year. He was followed by EXO’s Sehun, BigBang’s G-Dragon, Super Junior’s Heechul and 4Minute’s Hyuna.
Accounts of those hallyu stars were found to have 2 billion replies and “likes” with 150 million followers from more than 20 countries around the world in total.
Indonesia had the largest number of hallyu star followers on Instagram. Fans in Thailand, the United States, Brazil and Germany also showed strong interest in Korean stars. Hallyu refers to the Asianwide boom of Korean pop music, TV dramas and films.
Top, a member of the boy band Big Bang, has secured the largest number of followers in the shortest period of time since he started Instagram on May 2.
As of last month, G-Dragon had 4.5 million followers, the largest among hallyu stars.
Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon (4.1 million) and four EXO members — Chanyeol (4.1 million), Sehun (3.8 million), Baekhyun (3.5 million) and Tao (3.3 million) — were also among the stars with more than 3 million followers.
