SEOUL, Mar. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — The government is poised to approve the new fifth-generation (5G) mobile network rate plan by mobile carrier SK Telecom Co. later this week, industry sources said Thursday.
The Ministry of Science and ICT received the application from the mobile carrier on Monday and is forecast to make the final decision later this week, they said.
The cost of the 5G rate plan is forecast to start at 55,000 won (US$48) per month for eight gigabytes (GB) of data, they said. The unlimited rate package is forecast to hover above 120,000 won per month.
The two other mobile carriers — KT Corp. and LG UPlus Inc. — are also poised to submit their plans for the rates in early April.
SK Telecom earlier said it has completed key tests of its 5G network on Samsung Electronics Co.’s upcoming 5G smartphone as part of preparation for its commercial rollout next month.
