SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — The South Korean government plans to provide a 24-hour civil consultation service, protect victims of crimes using Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and develop a blockchain-based customs system for exporting products.
South Korea’s Ministry of Public Administration and Safety announced on Wednesday that it had selected three projects to promote public services using cutting-edge information technology.
The 24-hour civil consultation service will involve developing an artificial intelligence (AI) system that can address various civil complaints 24 hours a day based on the stacks of data collected from each consultation case.
The new service will replace the previous ‘chat bots’, known for their lack of accessibility among seniors and other groups less familiar with information technology, and limitations in the variety of services they can provide.
The new service will be equipped with voice consultation features that will allow citizens to ‘talk’ to the system.
The new protection system for criminal victims will involve applying IoT technology to electronic anklets for sex offenders to closely track the distance between the criminal and the victim.
This will resolve the issues with current anklet models which make it difficult for authorities to prevent whoever is wearing them from approaching the victim, once the victim leaves the location pre-registered to the system.
The new system, with consent from the victim, will be able to track the distance between the criminal and the victim on a real-time basis using IoT technology.
Blockchain-based customs systems for export goods will automatically report product data, sales, and shipping information to a customs agency, which is expected to reduce the amount of time spent on customs and the cost of logistics.
