SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Korea Bizwire) – With a surge in confirmed coronavirus cases across South Korea, universities are holding drive-in graduation ceremonies to keep their students safe.
Hongik University, in tandem with telecom giant KT Corp., held a drive-in graduation ceremony at the school’s Seoul campus on Aug. 21, which student representatives, award winners, graduates and family members attended in their cars.
Students and their family members listened to the congratulatory remarks by Hongik University President Yang Woo-suk from inside their cars. Each car drove by a booth where diplomas were given out.
Others who couldn’t participate in the ceremony joined online via KT’s official YouTube live streaming.
A large electronic display installed on the stage screened videos of students and family members participating both online and offline.
Colleges are carrying out graduation ceremonies online as the coronavirus continues to spread.
