SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire) – Postage stamps in celebration of South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s 100th day in office were released today, seeing hundreds of people waiting in line for hours in what could be the one and only opportunity to get ahold of the rare collectibles.
According to Korea Post, over 300 people had already formed a line at the Seoul Central Post Office even before nine in the morning, when the stamps marking the 100th day anniversary of President Moon went on sale.
At Gwanghwamun Post Office, supporters of President Moon came early in the morning to take a spot in line, with staff members seen handing out numbers for the waiting list as the opening time approached.
Similar scenes earlier today were reported on social media networks at post offices across the nation.
The popularity of Moon’s postage stamps at offline retail locations comes after a pre-order sales period earlier this month was cut short when Korea Post experienced an unexpected level of orders.
Due to the soaring demand for online sales after many people weren’t able to buy the stamps offline, the official website of Korea Post was shut down around nine in the morning, and didn’t recover until noon.

Against the soaring demand, an additional 12,000 copies of the stamp album will be produced on top of the originally scheduled 20,000, making Moon the first South Korean president in history to enjoy such a level of popularity.
The stamp album features images depicting Moon during his childhood, rubbing shoulders with former president Roh Moo-hyun, and his inauguration.
It has been speculated that the supply of the commemorative stamp and stamp album set will be exhausted today.
