SEOUL, June 2 (Korea Bizwire) — A fiber made from recycled fishing nets by Hyosung TNC Corp. will be utilized in the production of outdoor garments.
The textile manufacturer said Thursday that it has partnered with outdoor brands such as The North Face and K2 to incorporate its Regen Ocean Nylon into this year’s spring and summer season clothing and backpacks.
Regen Ocean Nylon is a fiber created from recycled fishing nets gathered from South Korean waters as well as those found outside of the country.
The clothing products utilizing this fiber include training sets, polo t-shirts, and backpacks from K2, as well as rash guards and wind jackets from The North Face.
Hyosung TNC pioneered the development and commercialization of this fiber in 2007, marking a world first.
The company expanded production by constructing new manufacturing facilities in late last year.
This collaboration with outdoor brands is expected to contribute to the recycling of approximately 36 tons of discarded fishing nets.
