SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Motor Group said Tuesday it held a completion ceremony for its global innovation center in Singapore aimed at research and development of new human-centered mobility technologies.
The group said it held the ceremony for the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), located in Jurong Innovation District, an advanced manufacturing industrial complex in the western part of Singapore.
Hyundai broke ground for HMGICS in October 2020. The completion of the center, originally scheduled for the end of last year, was delayed due to difficulties in construction caused by COVID-19.
Key attendees at the event from both countries included Lawrence Wong, deputy prime minister of Singapore, South Korean Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun and Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Euisun Chung.
HMGICS is a test bed where Hyundai Motor Group conducts research and development of human-centered future mobility centered on technology, manufacturing and business.
Spanning some 44,000 square meters, the complex includes small-scale manufacturing facilities, workspaces for research and development, as well as office spaces and customer experience facilities, all within a single building.
HMGICS began operations earlier this year, producing Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and autonomous taxi models. It has the capacity to produce over 30,000 electric vehicles annually.
