SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Group used this week’s Clean Energy Ministerial in Busan to press the case for building out a scalable hydrogen ecosystem, underscoring its ambitions to play a central role in the global energy transition.
The three-day forum, which opened Sunday at the city’s BEXCO convention center, drew delegations from more than 40 countries, including the United States, China and Japan, as well as leaders from the International Energy Agency, the World Bank and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
Hyundai executives participated in sessions on industrial decarbonization, energy efficiency and future fuels. Ken Ramirez, executive vice president of the group’s Energy and Hydrogen Business Division, called for governments and companies to work together to link infrastructure, investment and policy.
“For hydrogen to be competitive, public and private sectors must jointly build the infrastructure, financing and industrial base that will sustain demand and supply,” Mr. Ramirez said. He added that developing a clean hydrogen certification system and global standards would be critical to expanding adoption.
Hyundai also outlined its current hydrogen business and reiterated the need for price competitiveness and resilient supply chains. “A strategic infrastructure buildout is essential for scaling the new hydrogen energy system,” Mr. Ramirez said.
As part of the event, Hyundai provided 32 units of its newly launched Nexo fuel-cell SUV as official vehicles for dignitaries attending both the ministerial and the parallel APEC Energy Ministers’ Meeting.
