INCHEON, May 8 (Korea Bizwire) — The city of Incheon announced on Tuesday that it will begin offering Internet of Things (IoT) phones to senior residents.
The city gave out IoT phones to 1,010 people out of 3,400 senior residents at the senior center in Yeonsu district.
The IoT phones are equipped with light, temperature, humidity, and movement sensors, enabling the phone to monitor the movement of senior citizens in real time.
If the phone fails to detect any movement at home for more than a certain period of time, it will automatically call 119 as well as local caretakers.
The phone was developed with technological support from professional IoT companies.
Incheon plans to spend 2.1 billion won (US$1.7 million) to offer phones to 8,225 senior citizens by the end of this year.
