SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Indonesia will carry out an irrigation modernization project that uses Korean technology to supply agricultural water to rice paddies.
The Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC) said Monday that it won an order for the design and supervision of irrigation modernization and emergency renovation work for a total of 143,000 hectares of agricultural lands in 22 regions in Indonesia ranging from Sumatra Island to Sulawesi Island.
The KRC won the project after competing with six companies. Starting from March, it will dispatch three professionals to modernize irrigation channels and waterways in 22 regions for 33 months.
Indonesian farmers supply agricultural water to their paddy fields manually since there are many cases where irrigation channels and waterways are blocked by sediment, preventing water from flowing well.
The South Korea’s state-run agricultural company plans to ensure uninterrupted water flow by digging irrigation channels and waterways deeper and creating a slope.
It also plans to enable remote control through the installation of a flowmeter and CCTV cameras, while installing sluice gates at intervals of 200 to 300 meters.
