DAEJEON, Sept. 24 (Korea Bizwire)The state-run Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced on Wednesday that it has developed a virtual reality (VR) fire extinguishing training simulator that allows firefighters to be trained in real-like fire environments.

The VR training simulator was developed to enable fire extinguishing training using real fire extinguishing equipment.

The newly-developed simulator consists of a ‘motion simulator’ that enables safe use of complete immersion experience-type content, a ‘multisensory interface’ that allows the experience of real-like scenes, and ‘tangible training content’ that was developed with the input of firefighters.

During the simulation training, users can walk up and down a slope or move up and down in virtual space.

The tangible interface technology allows users to experience real-like fire hoses and nozzles.

The VR simulator can be used for massive virtual training on the disinfection of COVID-19 via a network connection.

ETRI is also engaged in the development of Internet of Things (IoT)-based fire digital twin technology that is aimed at ensuring efficient escape from fires.
