SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Korea Bizwire)South Koreans’ interest in money-making strategies and health food rather than travel increased sharply after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a survey showed Monday.

According to a survey conducted by a travel platform operator Yanolja of 1,344 customers in their 20s to 40s, the share of the respondents who said they have interest in travel (multiple answers possible) dropped from 64.2 percent (No. 1) before COVID-19 to 19.2 percent (No. 5) post COVID-19.

Money-making strategies (38.8 percent) as well as food ingredients and health food (34.2 percent) ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, post COVID-19.

“This is because the number of individuals who started trading in stocks, centered on young the generation, has increased sharply since the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) marked a strong performance from last year,” Yanolja said.

When it came to travel, 80 percent of the respondents said that they were traveling less following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and only 4.7 percent said that they were actually travelling more.
.
The share of respondents who said they purchase leisure items online increased sharply from 47 percent before COVID-19 to 79.4 percent post COVID-19.

The number of premium hotel reservations booked through Yanolja’s app last year marked a sharp year-to-year growth of 185.4 percent, indicating that the demand for high-end lodging facilities increased.
