SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s major IT companies are strengthening in-house cafeteria service as part of efforts to improve their welfare systems as well as to minimize the resistance of employees following the abolition of work-at-home policies.
Gaming giant Nexon Co., for instance, plans to expand its internal cafeterias. The company’s workforce increased to 5,991 in the third quarter of last year from 5,149 in late 2019.
Online game maker Neowiz Games Co. decided to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner for free at its in-house cafeteria starting this year. Previously, employees had to pay half of breakfast and lunch costs.
After the full-scale return to office life, game developer NCSOFT Corp. also established a new corner allowing its employees to enjoy an eco-friendly salad bar and vegan dishes in June 2022.
Internet portal giants are also strengthening their in-house cafeteria welfare services.
Naver Corp. for example, is set to add new menu options such as salads and sandwiches to its in-house cafeteria and snack bars within its new building by this month.
Kakao Corp. is also on track to improve in-house facilities, including cafeterias, to cope with the full-scale resumption of normal office work slated for March.
These moves are aimed at minimizing the resistance of employees by leveraging the benefits of in-house dining options that can be enjoyed only when employees are at the office.
