SEOUL, Sept. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — Key news agencies from South Korea, China and Japan opened a joint photo exhibition on Tuesday at a history museum in Seoul to support the successful hosting of a series of global sports events in Northeast Asia.
The joint exhibition at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History has been put together by Yonhap News, China’s Xinhua News Agency and Japan’s Kyodo News. Running through Nov. 30, it is the first of three exhibits aimed at promoting scheduled Olympics in the region.
The Seoul event is aimed at wishing for the successful hosting of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea. It features 90 photos from areas ranging from politics to nature to sports.
“Taking the opportunity of a series of sports events in Northeast Asia being held, we expect the three nations will enhance cooperation and exchanges through sports and culture,” Second Vice Minister of Culture Roh Tae-kang said at the opening ceremony held at the museum.
The exhibits were proposed by Yonhap News to promote the Olympics and boost the ties of three media companies. Park No-hwang, Yonhap News CEO and president, visited Xinhua News Agency in Beijing and Kyodo News in Tokyo last month and signed agreements for the serial exhibitions.
The second joint exhibition will be held in Tokyo in 2019, while the third edition will be arranged by Xinhua in 2021 in Beijing ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Winter Games scheduled in the Japanese and Chinese capitals, respectively.
“The three news agencies agreed to hold the exhibitions in the hope that each Olympics will be held successfully as the people of the three nations have high interest in and expectations for the events,” Park said, adding that he hoped the events help improve relations.
