SEOUL, July 23 (Korea Bizwire) — Kia Corp. has unveiled key features of its PV5 purpose-built vehicle (PBV), highlighting the model’s class-leading interior space but with compact exterior dimensions, the company said Wednesday.

The PV5 is a mid-sized PBV built on Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated electric platform E-GMP.S, and designed to serve both personal and commercial mobility needs, such as commuting, leisure and logistics.

“We have achieved Carnival-level interior room in a vehicle the size of a Sportage,” Heo Man-seung, a researcher at Kia’s engineering solutions team, said during a technical presentation held Tuesday in Gwangmyeong, southwest of Seoul.

The PBV comes in a relatively compact size, measuring 4,695 millimeters in length and 1,895 mm in width, but boasts interior dimensions on par with larger vehicles, thanks to the E-GMP.S platform.

The passenger version offers over 1,000 mm of head and legroom even in the third row, and wheelchair users can board easily via sliding second-row doors. The cargo variant also offers impressive space, with the long-body and high-roof versions delivering up to 1,815 mm in interior height.

A key feature of the PV5 is its Flexible Body System, allowing modular customization of the vehicle’s structure. By mixing components, such as the roof, doors and glass panels, customers can create up to 16 unique body types.

The PV5 will offer 43.3 kilowatt-hour (kWh,) 51.5 kWh and 71.2 kWh batteries depending on the variant. Kia emphasized that innovations in the PV5 were made possible through a dedicated PBV development process applied to the model for the first time.
