SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of South Korea announced that it will hold a briefing on December 19 at the Grand Intercontinental Parnas Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul, targeting industry, academic, and research institutions. The event aims to discuss research projects in the areas of standardization of alternative animal testing and narcotics safety management.

The initiative on standardizing alternative animal testing is focused on minimizing the use of experimental animals while ensuring the safety of pharmaceuticals and other products. This involves developing evaluation techniques using organoids (organ-like structures) or biological tissue chips for different organs. The project also includes research utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to assess the safety and efficacy of these organoids.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to invest a total of 47.5 billion won over five years, from next year to 2028, to advance this research.

In terms of narcotics safety management, the technology development project aims to discern human consumption of narcotics and detect illegal adulteration in foods, along with developing rehabilitation technologies for addicts.

The goal of this project is to introduce new technologies in rapid narcotics testing and dependency behavior assessment, as well as to develop personalized rehabilitation technologies.

A total of 16.8 billion won will be allocated to this project over the same five-year period.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety expressed its expectation that the briefing would assist researchers in industry, academia, and research institutions to participate in new grant-funded projects.
