SEOUL, July 4 (Korea Bizwire) — A court on Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed by a group of doctors who claimed that graduates of Hungarian medical schools are ineligible for the nation’s state-run medical licensing exam.
The Seoul Administrative Court rejected the lawsuit filed by a medical group called Doctors for Fair Society against the Ministry of Health and Welfare regarding the verification of eligibility requirements for foreign universities.
The group filed an administrative suit in March 2022, arguing that graduates of four medical schools in Hungary do not meet the qualifications for the state-run medical licensing exam.
The suit contended that these medical universities lack school regulations on admission qualifications, quotas, and graduation requirements.
They also conduct regular classes in English instead of Hungarian, thus failing to meet the standards for the medical licensing exam, the medical group claimed.
The suit highlighted that Hungary is granting medical licenses to Korean students under the condition that they are prohibited from practicing medicine in the country.
However, the court dismissed the case, stating that it does not fulfill the requirements for a lawsuit as it does not pertain to legal relationships resulting from administrative actions.
