SEOUL, April 26 (Korea Bizwire) – Graceful works by Korea’s ancient and contemporary potters will be displayed in Paris, the National Museum of Korea said Tuesday, hailing local visitors to explore the rich heritage of Korean ceramics.
Dubbed “The Earth, Fire and Spirit,” the Korean pottery exhibition will run April 27-June 20 in the exhibition hall of Grand Palais in celebration of the 130th anniversary of Korea-France diplomatic ties.
A total of 344 pieces of Korean pottery, including 307 traditional works and 37 contemporary, are displayed in the special exhibition.
The crown jewel is the showcasing of 11 national cultural properties, including the “Celadon Turtle-Shaped Ewer” of Koryeo dynasty and “Moon Porcelain Jar” from late Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).
Some of the oldest pieces — earthwares with etchings of delicate patterns — date all the way back to the Three Kingdom Period (57 B.C.-A.D. 668), buried inside a tomb with the dead. Celadon ewers evocative of the high-end taste of Goryeo aristocrats and Buncheong ware reflective of the dynamic livelihood of Joseon era are also on display.
