Korean Teenagers Exercise for 90 Minutes at a Time on Average: Survey

SEOUL, March 25 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean teenagers spend about an hour and a half on average when they participate in a sports activity, a survey showed Thursday.

The average monthly frequency of their participation in sports activities stood at 9.6 times, according to the survey conducted of 2,238 teenagers by the National Youth Policy Institute.

By gender, male students’ average frequency of participation stood at 10.85 times, higher than female students’ 8.04 times.

By type of school, elementary school students’ average frequency of participation stood at 12.81 times, higher than 9.31 times for middle school students and 8.57 times for high school students.

However, when it came to the average amount of time they spent at a time for sports activities, high school students spent 92.82 minutes, longer than 90.77 minutes for middle school students and 80.70 minutes for elementary school students.

Roughly two-thirds of the respondents said that they had taken private sports lessons, in addition to the ones offered in schools, over the previous two years (2019-2020).

Male students had higher participation experience (68.4 percent) than female students (61.8 percent) and elementary school students (71.1 percent) and middle school students (71.5 percent) recorded higher participation experience than high school students (55.9 percent).
