SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Korea Bizwire) – Interest in Industry 4.0, or the fourth industrial revolution, is quickly spreading.

The idea was brought to the spotlight with WEF President Klaus Schwab’s visit to Korea this month, and sales of books related to future forecasts and upcoming business trends are soaring.

Online bookstore Interpark Books saw a 31.8 percent increase in sales of such books from September 26 to October 25 compared to the month prior (August 26 – September 25).

In particular, sales of Schwab’s book The Fourth Industrial Revolution have more than doubled so far this month compared to September sales of 320, landing the book the third spot on the monthly best-seller list in the store’s Economy and Business category.

The top selling book in the Economy and Business category also presents future business insights. Deep Insight – Opportunities of the Future (translated) by a team from KBS, partially includes details of Industry 4.0.

According to Interpark, around a dozen new books related to Industry 4.0 were published in the second half of the year alone with the growing popularity of the concept in industrial and academic circles.

The fourth industrial revolution refers to the coming reorganization of industrial structure with the convergence of emerging technologies like big data, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.

“The government and academic and industry circles are quickly moving to prepare for the coming age,” said an Interpark official. “There’s also a sense of fear that Industry 4.0 may take away or completely eliminate some jobs, which we believe is contributing to growing interest in related publications.”
