SEOUL, Aug. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — KT Corp. said Wednesday it has partnered with the U.S. chip giant Intel Corp. to develop an ecosystem for high-end fifth-generation (5G) technology.
South Korea’s No. 2 mobile carrier will cooperate in delivering innovative solutions for 5G with a foundation of Intel architecture, according to the company’s press release.
The telecommunication company will develop the Edge platform to deliver 5G service by utilizing Intel’s mobile trial platform and processors.
KT said it will also join hands with Qwilt Inc., a U.S. provider of content delivery and open caching solutions, to construct a communication network by utilizing such solutions.
KT said earlier it would start commercial operations of its 5G mobile network in March 2019. 5G data transmission speeds are 40-50 times faster than the existing 4G network or long-term evolution (LTE) and are expected to open a wide range of new business opportunities for the communication service sector.
