KT to Open AI-based Robot Cafe at MWC

SEOUL, Feb. 20 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean telecommunications company KT Corp. said Wednesday it will open a robot cafe in the main venue of MWC Barcelona to serve free coffee to visitors at the world’s largest mobile event next week.

A barista robot, b;eat 2nd Evolution, will serve 47 kinds of drinks at GSMA Innovation City, an exhibition hall where KT will showcase its 5G technology and connected devices alongside leading brands, such as Google and Huawei.

Visitors can order a hot latte with their voice as the barista robot is enabled by GiGA Genie, KT’s artificial intelligence (AI) assistant service.

The robot to be showcased is an upgraded version of the previous model, which received orders based on signals from a 5G station using a mobile hot spot.

To make the robot smarter, KT said it will upgrade its face recognition and AI technologies to provide more customized services.

During the four-day mobile show, the company will also present 5G-connected robots, augmented reality glasses, remote support solutions for enterprises, a virtual reality baseball park, a 360-degree video zone and a robot hotel.

KT Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu plans to deliver his third MWC keynote speech to unveil his 5G vision, following similar addresses in 2015 and 2017.
