SEOUL, July 3 (Korea Bizwire) — President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday praised Seoul’s recently completed defense export deal with Poland involving South Korean-produced K2 tanks, calling it a “splendid feat” for the Korean defense sector.
Lee’s remarks came a day after the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced that it had secured the second sales agreement of K2 tanks with Poland. The deal is estimated to be worth around 8.8 trillion won (US$6.46 billion).
“I am truly proud that the K2 Black Panther tanks fitted with the Republic of Korea’s technology and pride will proudly roam the green earth of Poland,” Lee said in his Facebook post.
“The world has its eyes on South Korea’s defense industry, which has turned geopolitical crises into opportunities to boost its production capacity, quality and price competitiveness,” he said, noting its greatness has been proved again through the record-breaking export deal with Poland.
Lee vowed to invest extensively in nurturing talent and research development in the defense sector, and to expand the number of cooperative countries in the field through “practical diplomacy” centered on the national interest. He also thanked DAPA and Hyundai Rotem Co., the tank’s manufacturer, for closing the deal successfully.
