SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics has opened a permanent experience space for its modular housing concept, the LG Smart Cottage, aiming to tap into emerging lifestyle trends and the fast-growing modular construction market.
The company said Wednesday that visitors can now stay overnight in Smart Cottage units at Juksan Morak, a newly launched cultural complex in Gimje, North Jeolla Province. Developed in partnership with a local youth-led cooperative, the site marks the first time LG’s modular homes are being used as full-time accommodation rather than a temporary showroom.
LG is positioning the Smart Cottage as a solution for customers embracing new work-life models such as “workation” lifestyles and part-time rural living, while also targeting business clients planning leisure, tourism and premium lodging projects.
Guests staying at Juksan Morak can use the Smart Cottage as their lodging while enjoying panoramic views of the Gimje plains and participating in local cultural programs linked to nearby businesses, including brewing and baking workshops.
The move comes as South Korea’s modular construction market is projected to grow to 4.4 trillion won ($3.3 billion) by 2030, prompting LG to expand real-world exposure to its housing platform.

The site features two single-story Mono units and two duplex-style Duo units. Both models are equipped with LG’s AI-powered home appliances, including refrigerators, induction cooktops, lightwave ovens, dishwashers, WashTower laundry systems and the StanbyME smart display. All devices can be managed through LG’s ThinQ app, which integrates appliances, IoT systems and heating and cooling controls.
LG said the Smart Cottage’s short construction timeline and high energy efficiency make it particularly attractive to B2B customers seeking rapid commercialization. The company added that centralized digital management could help operators reduce maintenance costs.
One model, the Mono Plus 26, achieved an energy self-sufficiency rate exceeding 120 percent and became the first prefabricated building in Korea to earn the Korea Energy Agency’s highest certification, Zero Energy Building Plus (ZEB Plus).
Bookings for stays at Juksan Morak are available through the websites of premium lodging platform Fine Stay and furniture brand Movement Lab.
“LG Smart Cottage offers a comfortable, home-like modular living experience,” said Cho Yeon-woo, head of LG Smart Cottage Company. “It is designed not only for individual customers but also as a compelling option for businesses preparing leisure and tourism projects.”
