SEOUL, Mar. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. said Thursday it will develop different types of robots and services to find new growth momentum in the future-oriented industry.
LG Electronics CEO Cho Sung-jin vowed to expand support for the company’s robotics business, following creation of a dedicated robot center under his office in November.
“We have to standardize parts and incorporate modular designs for robots to have a competitive edge,” Cho said during his visit to Robostar Co.’s headquarters and production line in Gyeonggi Province earlier this week. “We need to collaborate to find new growth momentum for the business.”
LG acquired a 30-percent stake in Robostar in July to expand the company’s robot lineup.
Established in 1999, Robostar mainly manufactures robots for productions lines for display, semiconductors and cars.
LG has also been partnering with Naver Corp., the nation’s top Internet portal operator, to upgrade its guide robot’s function based on the mobility and location platform.
