SEOUL, June 30 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics reported significant progress in its environmental and social initiatives, approaching its 2030 carbon emissions target and surpassing waste recycling goals, according to its newly released 2024–2025 Sustainability Report.

The South Korean tech giant said it recycled 97.4% of waste generated across its global operations last year—exceeding its 2030 goal of 95%. The company also reduced its greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) to 910,000 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent, approaching its 2030 goal of 878,000 tons. This marks a more than 50% reduction from 2017 levels.

As part of its decarbonization strategy, LG has ramped up energy efficiency upgrades and transitioned to renewable electricity, achieving a 14.4% renewable energy usage rate. The carbon emissions from the use phase of seven key product categories fell by 19.4% compared to 2020.

Recycled plastic use increased by 36% year-over-year to 74,079 tons, while the company recovered 532,630 tons of e-waste from 91 regions across 56 countries in 2024. Cumulative e-waste collection since 2006 now exceeds 5 million tons.

Beyond environmental milestones, LG continued efforts to enhance accessibility and inclusivity. The company expanded its “LG Comfort Kit” product line to 14 items, designed to help users of all ages and abilities interact with appliances more easily. Additional services include sign language consultations and senior-focused in-store programs.

Institutionally, LG is deepening its ESG commitment through its board-level ESG Committee, earning continued recognition in global ratings. It was ranked in the top 1% of companies in S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment for a second year, maintained an “A” rating from MSCI for five consecutive years, and remained on the Dow Jones World Index for the 13th year running.

As of the end of 2024, LG Electronics employed 75,241 people worldwide, up 2,428 from the previous year.
