SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics plans to unveil its quantum dot ultra HD TVs at the upcoming CES 2015, to be held in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9. The quantum dot technology uses light-emitting nanometer-sized crystals that produce different colors depending on their size.
LG’s quantum dot UHD TVs are able to reproduce better and more accurate color through the addition of quantum dot film in front of the LCD backlight. With this technology, the TVs benefit from a 30 percent increase in their color gamut.
Existing quantum dot LCD TVs require toxic heavy metals like cadmium, leading to environmental concerns. However, the second largest TV manufacturer in the world addressed the problem by creating cadmium-free quantum dots.
Lee In-kyu, head of the TV and monitor division of LG Electronics, said, “We will meet the needs of customers with quantum dot UHD TV with raised color reproduction rate as well as OLED TV, raising the bar for color definition.”
