SEOUL, May 22 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics announced Wednesday that it has surpassed 10 million cumulative OLED TV sales in Europe, marking a major milestone in the company’s global expansion and long-standing dominance in premium television technology.
Since launching its OLED TV lineup in the European market in 2013, LG reached 5 million units in cumulative sales by 2021 and doubled that figure in just four years.
According to market research firm Omdia, LG shipped approximately 391,100 OLED TVs in Europe in the first quarter of 2025, capturing a commanding 56.4% market share—meaning more than one in two OLED TVs sold in Europe this year were LG models.
This European performance closely mirrors LG’s global dominance. Of the approximately 704,400 OLED TVs shipped worldwide in Q1 2025, LG accounted for 55.5%.
LG attributed its success in Europe to the region’s strong preference for high-quality content and refined design. OLED technology, known for its self-illuminating pixels, delivers near-infinite contrast ratios and vivid color reproduction—qualities that have resonated strongly with European viewers.
The absence of a backlight also allows for slimmer, more minimalist designs, another appeal for design-conscious European consumers.
Sports broadcasting—deeply embedded in European culture through leagues like the Premier League—has further bolstered OLED demand, thanks to the technology’s superior response time and refresh rates, which enhance fast-moving visuals.
LG has also expanded its smart TV ecosystem in the region, offering the ad-supported streaming service LG Channels via its proprietary webOS platform. Available in 16 European countries, the platform now delivers more than 1,700 channels, including live sports and movies.
LG also operates its own curated content channels, known as O&O (Own and Operation), including LG 1, which debuted last year in major European markets in partnership with NBCUniversal, FilmRise, and Lionsgate.
LG OLED TVs have consistently ranked No. 1 in product evaluations by leading consumer publications across 12 European countries, including the UK, Germany, and France.
“The LG OLED TV has set a new standard in premium television with unmatched picture quality,” said Lee Chun-kuk, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Europe. “With our 2025 OLED Evo lineup, we’re delivering even brighter visuals and smarter AI features to elevate the viewing experience for European consumers.”
Globally, LG reached 20 million cumulative OLED TV sales by the end of 2024, maintaining its position as the world’s top OLED TV brand for 12 consecutive years.
