SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Uplus said on December 22 that it has developed Korea’s first system to block spam text messages with commercial images. The system will be linked to the Korea Internet & Security Agency’s spam blocking server that stores 130,000 spam images.
An image-based spam is a kind of spam where the textual spam message is embedded into images. As most spam blocking services currently available are based on algorithms that filter out specific words or strings of words and the sender’s phone numbers, it has been hard to find image spams.
The company will offer the service to all its 11 million subscribers for free beginning next week. An LG Uplus official said, “As the system can stop image spam messages, it is likely to reduce the incidence of personal information breaches significantly.”
