SEOUL, Sept. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — This year’s Chuseok holiday, which runs until Sept. 12., is shorter than usual so many Koreans are opting for domestic travel instead of going abroad. Accordingly, the demand for hotel stays is also increasing.
According to industry sources, the room occupancy rate of five-star hotels and resorts in the greater Seoul area, Busan and Jeju reached 80 to 90 percent for the Chuseok holiday.
Some hotels are fully booked for the holiday season.
“Reservations started filling up a month ago. Additional inquiries and bookings continue to pour in,” a hotel official said.
According to the booking platform Yeogi Eottae, the number of bookings increased by 81.7 percent for this year’s Chuseok holiday compared to last year.
In a list of Chuseok travel trends published by accommodation booking app Yanolja, the most popular accommodation type was a hotel stay (44 percent).
