SEOUL, May 3 (Korea Bizwire) — The percentage of stalkers apprehended by the police last year was similar between the younger and middle-aged generations.
According to National Police Agency data disclosed by Rep. Chung Woo-taik of the People Power Party, there were a total of 10,037 stalkers apprehended last year.
Each age group from the 20s to the 50s comprised more or less 20 percent. Those in their 40s and 50s comprised 40.8 percent of the total, similar to the percentage of those in their 20s and 30s (42.4 percent).
Contrary to common expectations that stalking crimes would be more rampant among the younger generation, where romantic relationships are more likely to occur, a considerable number of stalking crimes took place among middle-aged individuals as well.
Sorted by gender, 81.3 percent of the stalkers were men.
There were 10,547 reported victims of stalking crimes, a number similar to that of the perpetrators. Among the victims, 81.2 percent were female.
Sorted by age, 25.8 percent of the victims were in their 20s, followed by those in their 30s (20.6 percent), 50s (15.8 percent), and 60s (8.1 percent), similar to the age pattern of the perpetrators.
