PALO ALTO, Calif. June 10, 2014 (Korea Bizwire)–Ravello  Systems, the industry’s leading nested virtualization  provider, today announced that Mobitor Corporation, a leader in mobile  solutions that streamline field and backend operations, uses Ravello for  agile development and test environments. Ravello’s Software-as-a-Service  (SaaS) solution enables Mobitor to clone its multi-tier on-premises  production applications in any cloud without any modifications to the  existing virtual machines or networking. Additionally, Ravello’s  built-in automation for full-stack provisioning enables developers and  quality assurance (QA) teams to easily leverage the unlimited resources  of the public cloud.

Mobitor’s mobile-first B2B solution includes the StoreX product, a  demand chain solution for the retail and consumer packaged goods  industries, and the SOPIC product, a logistics solution for the medical  device industry. Both products are cloud-based and offered by Mobitor  under a SaaS model. Mobitor’s customers include Johnson & Johnson,  Safeway Inc., and Kaiser Permanente.

“Our customers rely on us for applications that track and manage  inventory in the field via their mobile devices, so efficiency is  crucial for building and maintaining our solutions in real-time,” said  Luke Hartsuyker, director of development at Mobitor. “Creating a new  instance of our stack from our Ravello blueprint is just two clicks in  the GUI or two API calls. No error prone automation code is required. We  have gained hours back every week in our development process by knowing  we can increase or decrease our dev/test capacity by using the public  cloud at any given time.”

Earlier, Mobitor’s development and test environments were hosted  on-premises, but the limited capacity was a huge constraint. In  addition, manually creating these complex environments was very slow and  tedious.

“Mobitor’s architecture was all virtualized before, but now with  Ravello, it is virtualized on steroids,” said Barrett Elliot, VP of  support and infrastructure at Mobitor. “We have uploaded a copy of our  production virtual machines to Ravello. If we want to make a major or  minor change to production, we can quickly test it in our clone in the  cloud. If we want to make additional environments available, we can  easily do that with Ravello’s point and click functionality without  facing any capacity constraints.”

After an evaluation of possible options, Mobitor selected Ravello  because it enabled a quick and easy way to clone its environments in the  public cloud by saving a blueprint of its entire multi-virtual machine  (multi-VM) application stack. With Ravello, Mobitor is now able to:

  • Utilize the unlimited capacity of the cloud, by running two  semi-permanent clones of its on-premises production environment in the  public cloud: one for quality assurance (QA) and one for development;
  • Increase efficiency for IT and developers, by enabling  self-service access to dev/test environments. Developers and QA teams  can simply spin up a new instance of their stack in any cloud using  their pre-configured blueprints in Ravello.

Ravello is also a key component for Mobitor implementing Continuous  Integration (CI), since now any number of production clones can be  quickly provisioned for running a full battery of automated tests. With  Ravello, a developer is able to investigate, reproduce and fix errors in  the code immediately and get faster feedback. With a pay-as-you-go SaaS  model from Ravello, Mobitor is able to reduce infrastructure costs while  increasing efficiency.
