SEOUL, May 15 (Korea Bizwire) – Moon Jae-in will become South Korea’s first leader to adopt a stray dog while in office, announced Blue House officials on Sunday.

The soon-to-be First Dog, Tori, was rescued two years ago by animal rights group Care, moments before it was to be slaughtered for dog meat. However, it struggled to find a new family because of its “less appealing” characteristics like its black fur and being a crossbreed.

President Moon came across the story during the election campaign, and promised earlier this month to adopt Tori as the First Dog if he was elected, stressing that “both humans and animals have the right to be free from prejudice and discrimination.”

Moon has long been the ‘father’ of a cat “Jjingjing” and dog “Jisoon,” both of which he adopted from the streets years ago, in addition to Maru, a male dog the new president had been raising prior to the adoptions.

Tori will be joining the new president in Cheong Wa Dae once the adoption process is complete, officials said.

It’s amazing, that one day soon there there will be no more meat dog and cat slaughter houses anymore. We just have to keep the pressure on till there all gone.
