CHEONGJU, June 24 (Korea Bizwire) — Crop damages dropped drastically after North Chungcheong Province carried out a region-wide hunt for wild boars between October of last year and March of this year to prevent the outbreak of African swine fever.
This year, only one case of crop damage from a wild animal was reported in Okcheon County, a significant drop from 10 cases last year.
Neighboring Yeongdong Country and Eumseong County are enjoying similar improvements.
The province organized 96 teams of hunters, who captured more than 16,000 wild boars in just six months, which is more than 50 percent of the total estimated wild boar population.
