SEOUL, Aug. 7 (Korea Bizwire)A beagle that is trained to detect bedbugs with an accuracy rate of more than 95 percent was commissioned as South Korea’s first bedbug sniffing dog, a pest control company said Wednesday.

Cesco Co. said it held a ceremony to commission the beagle, named Ceco, as its sniffer dog specialized in the detection of bedbugs.

“Ceco has a detection accuracy of more than 95 percent and is capable of finding bedbugs quickly and efficiently,” the company said in a statement.

According to the company, the brains of dogs like Ceco are 40 times more capable of detecting the unique pheromone smell of bedbugs compared with humans.

“(The dog) can find bedbugs in all life stages, from eggs to adults, faster than the human eye, taking only one or two minutes per room,” it said.

The beagle, though active and curious by nature, has a calm demeanor and has undergone specialized training programs, the company said.
