SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — NCSOFT Corp., a major South Korean game developer, finalized its decision to establish four new subsidiaries, including game studios, in an extraordinary meeting of shareholders, the company said Thursday.
With the shareholders’ approval, the company will split off three game studios — FirstSpark Games, BigFire Games and Ludius Games — and one artificial intelligence technology firm, NC AI, according to its officials.
The companies plan to open their doors Feb. 1.
FirstSpark Games will take charge of the management of Throne and Liberty, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game targeting the overseas market.
BigFire Games will be in charge of managing LLL, NCSOFT’s looter shooter game to be released next year and Ludious Games will operate TACTAN, a strategy game currently being developed.
NC AI will lead NCSOFT’s AI technology enhancement, including its self-developed large language model Varco and the application of AI technology in games.
“Through the transition to an independent game development studio system, NCSOFT will create an innovative game developing culture with speed, flexibility and creativity, and actively come up with new IPs for the global market,” said Park Byung-moo, co-CEO of the company.
