SEOUL, Feb. 15 (Korea Bizwire)A recommended list of instructions for public agencies on reducing the use of disposable products will soon become a legal obligation.

The Ministry of Environment recently announced plans for enactment of this new law.

The new bill bans public agencies from buying or using disposable products during official events held inside public quarters or others hosted by them.

In addition, when signing contracts with vendors, restaurants, and coffee shops operated inside public facilities, they will be asked not to use or sell disposable products or packaging.

Public agencies will be encouraged to hold paperless meetings and conferences. If paper printing is required, they must put in efforts to save resources by staying away from color or single-sided printing.

The bill also stipulates that public agencies need to make efforts not to sell disposable products at funeral chambers they operate.

Disposable products have been excluded from the list of public agencies’ support for employee funerals.
