New Water Recycling System for SNU’s Dormitory

SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Korea Bizwire) – A new water recycling system that purifies rainwater and wastewater to provide bathroom water has been installed at a dormitory at Seoul National University.

According to the College of Engineering at SNU on Wednesday, the water recycling system collects rainwater from the roof of the dormitory building, which is then used with gray water like bathwater, for instance, to flush toilets.

According to SNU, the wastewater recycling facility is expected to save nearly 50 tons of water every day, as well as around 30 million won in water bills each year.

Professor Han Moo-yeong from the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, who designed the system, urged other communal residential buildings to follow suit.

“Including apartments, communal residential buildings should be equipped with a rainwater and gray water recycling facility to establish a sustainable water recycling system,” Han said.
