SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries held a special ceremony along with the U.S. Embassy in Seoul to “adopt” Masian Beach in Incheon’s Yeongjongdo Island, 60 kilometers west of Seoul.
The “adopt a beach” program brings participants to select a beach and take care of it as their own.
The program is open to all organizations, businesses and schools.
The ministry began a trial of the program in September 2020 at three beaches on Jeju Island with the aim of bringing the private sector into efforts to clean up marine waste.
The program was quickly expanded to eight metropolitan governments in which 63 agencies have chosen to take care of 53 beaches.
Masian Beach was Incheon’s first beach to be “adopted,” with South Korean food conglomerate CJ Cheiljedang Corp. taking the honors in August of last year.
The U.S. Embassy became the second agency to adopt the beach.
