SEOUL, Dec. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — Thanks to the increase in the number of campers resulting from the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, small-sized oil heaters are regaining popularity in South Korea.
Electric heating appliances are inconvenient to use since they require an electrical hook up at the camp site or must be connected to a vehicle’s power outlet with the car left on overnight.
Sales of kerosene fan heaters at E-Mart and E-Mart Traders during the period from Sept. 17-Nov. 25 reached 2,500 units, a tenfold increase from a year ago.
Online shopping malls are no exception. Gmarket saw sales of heating items for camping use shoot up by 117 percent during the period from October 27 to November 26.
On the back of surging demand, discount stores are vying to get more oil heaters through additional orders, while one home shopping channel made a special program for this item for the first time.
