SEOUL, Korea, Jan 24 (Korea Bizwire) – Photo exhibits held since late last year have become mega hits attracting more than 100,000 visitors. For example, “A Centennial Retrospective of Robert Capa” and “The Life Photography Exhibition” during October and November logged in 117,000 and 104,000 admissions, respectively.
The “Let’s Celebrate Youth” exhibition running between November last year and February 23 by the young photographer Ryan McGinley being shown at the Daelim Museum has attracted more than 100,000 visitors to date. The “Jumping with Love” exhibit to be on display until February 23 showing the photographs of Philippe Halsman is also getting good reviews.
As to the reason why photography exhibitions are gaining popularity, Photographic Artist Association of Korea president Lee Cheol-jib said, “Recently the level of interest in photography has heightened among hobbyist photographers and the general public, probably because of the widespread use of DSLR cameras since the early 2000s.”
