SEOUL, May 18 (Korea Bizwire)POSCO Engineering & Construction Co., the construction arm of South Korea’s leading steelmaker, POSCO, will team up with a small and medium-sized company to develop technologies that can drastically reduce dust generation, a major headache at construction sites.

The company held an agreement ceremony on Friday with Hyundai Fine Chemical Co., which specializes in the production of petrochemical products and hardeners, to develop new fine dust reduction technologies.

The two companies will jointly develop a technology that combines and dispenses natural dust inhibitors that are being developed by Hyundai Fine Chemical to be suitable for use on construction sites.

POSCO E&C proposed joint technology development to Hyundai Fine Chemical, which was developing natural polymer materials based on plants, while seeking ways to reduce dust at construction sites in an environmentally-friendly manner.

As a result of the pilot application of the newly developed anti-dispersion agent at the construction sites of the Jije and Segyo housing projects in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province since June of last year, the company confirmed that was expected to remain effective for up to three months.

In addition, existing dustproof covers were not used, saving additional labor and expenditures, such as dismantling the dustproof cover and generating waste, and reducing the amount of dust generated by one-third.

“If we succeed in commercializing the dust inhibitor, we plan to obtain certification of new environmental technologies and permission from government agencies to use them at all construction sites,” said an official at POSCO E&C.
